Franklin Delano Roosevelt (30 Jan. 1882-12 Apr. 1945), thirty-second president of the United States, was born on his family's estate in Dutchess County, New York, the son of James Roosevelt, a wealthy, landed gentleman who dabbled in but usually devoted no great effort to business, and Sara Delano. As the World War II drew to a close, Roosevelt's health deteriorated, and on April 12, 1945, while at Warm Springs, Georgia, he died of a cerebral hemorrhage. |
